Captain’s Coffee was
founded by Ty Gates in 1995 in Homer, Alaska. Starting with a small
2 man operation and a hand built drum roaster, Ty set out on his quest
to provide the community of Homer with fresh roasted coffees
from around the world.
Now years later, Ty has grown his operation
and has had many customers call him requesting his coffees, because
they just can’t
find the quality anywhere else!
He believes in the art of roasting and
uses a 12 kilo San Franciscan drum roaster. His operation has expanded
and he is committed to the goal of producing fresh, quality coffee.
 As his knowledge of the industry developed, Ty focused primarily on
purchasing shade grown, organic and fair trade coffees. By sponsoring
estate farms, and becoming part of the Audubon Societies “Bird
Friendly” program he continues to contribute to good earth
practices.
